Life Changing Decision

One date I will never forget is March 18th, 2020; the day my life went turned entirely upside down. It was the last day I did makeup on a client since the Covid shut down. Throughout these months, I have had such highs and lows. Tears have been shed as well as a laugher. I have come into myself, learn what is important to me, and looked into what I want out of the next 5- 15 years. Through soul searching, I have made the life-changing decision to go back to school at 29 years old.

March and April 2020

My 1st two months of quarantine were a tough one for me. Many independent contractors know, you don’t work, you don’t get paid. I spent the 1st month freaking out. Hours spent trying to get ahold of unemployment and moping around eating my feelings. Not to mention I wasn’t getting any unemployment at the time, so I wasn’t sure how to make ends meet. In other words, Netflix and chilling with my cat became a real thing.

May 2020

Month 3 things started looking up when I was finally able to get out of my rut a little and had some income thanks to UE. I was still on the struggle bus financially, but; I could at least pay for the basics. To get out of my head, I took long walks around my neighborhood. Luckily, I live in an area of LA the is pretty residential, so I could continue to social distance, even if that meant walking then the middle of the street.

June 2020

Come June, my puppy feet started to get the best of me. That was when I realized that I needed to get some movement in my day. Coming from a makeup background, you are always moving, going up and downstairs, carrying my bag, moving around on set. Being in my tiny 1-bedroom apartment was killing my energy, moods, and sleep. I started the 5K Run app and the Chloe Ting 2-week challenge to getting back into shape and burn energy.

July 2020

Now say hello to July. As I am writing this, I have using the Fiton App to work out an average of 4-5 days a week between 1-2 hours. Don’t think I’m not going hard the whole time; it’s a combination of HITT, stretching, yoga, strength training, and more. I’m someone who will get bored with an exercise continually being repeated. During this time of getting back into shape, I have come to realize how much I love working out and moving. I always knew it was necessary as pilates and cycling were significant parts of my life pre-Covid, but the more I dive in, the stronger my passion for health and wellness becomes.

If it weren’t for Covid, I would not have come to the life-changing decision to go back to school. I’ve have decided to get my degree in Kinesiology and potentially get a doctorate to become a physical therapist. Having lacked movement in quarantine made me realize how important it is, and I want to provide that to others. The plan is to become a certified personal trainer with the possibility of getting my minor in nutrition so I can provide the best service possible to my amazing clients.

I am sharing my journey with you because, I never want someone to think it is too late.
